Tired of just seeing France through the pages of your French book? Experience what makes this county so unique in its history, fine arts, and people. From Paris to the countryside France is full of endless educational experiences, including magnificent museums, ancient Roman aqueducts, famous opera houses and beautiful chateaus.
During the program, students are placed in carefully selected and vetted host families all over France, mostly in suburban or rural areas. They live like a member of the family and attend the local state or private school.
There are two options when considering studying in France; (1) you may opt to live and learn while living with a host family while studying at a public or private lycée, (high school) or (2) you can have the choice to live and study in a reputable boarding school. Either way, both offer excellent opportunities to experience the French joie de vivre as well as develop fluency.
Participants can choose to study for one term, one semester or one full academic year in a public or private high school near their host family. French high schools, or lycées, are categorized into three divisions; Literature & Languages, Economics & Sociology, and Sciences & Mathematics. Students are free to choose which of these tracks would best fit their future plans and interests.
L'école publique, or public schools, make up the vast majority of French schools. The school day generally goes from the morning until 5:00 or 6:00pm with a two-hour lunch where students generally return home to eat. Classes are in session Monday through Friday with an additional Saturday morning session. In a L'école privée, generally a Catholic private school, students stay on campus to eat lunch, therefore allowing the school day to end between 4:00 and 4:30pm. No Saturday class is required.
In both public and private systems, the year is divided up into three trimesters of three months each.
